Secret of Cosmetic Surgery:: Wrinkles VS Laser Facelifts

Wrinkles, wrinkles everywhere, not a smooth spot to be seen. Yes, liberties were taken from an exceptional poem, however, it may seem like your once smooth skin has been replaced with well worn leather. How on earth do you combat time and experience with a more youthful appearance? First you must keep in mind how wrinkles come to be.

Well, if your grandparents have more wrinkles than some people, heredity plays a big part in your appearance. Exposure to the sun is also a prime cause of wrinkling. If your job or extracurricular activities keep you in the sun for prolonged periods of time, your chances of developing wrinkles becomes greater. Do not forget about smoking either, this habit prematurely ages you in ways beyond a few wrinkles.

There are really two types of wrinkles: fine lines - these are wrinkles that are on the surface of the skin; and deep furrows - laugh lines and crows feet are good examples of this type of wrinkle.

There are several options for either reducing the "appearance" of fine lines and wrinkles. Or if you would like a complete face lift, surgeries are available to resurface your face. One such method of removing the deep furrows caused by time and sun exposure is a laser facelift.

Laser resurfacing uses lasers like the carbon dioxide and erbium lasers. Passing these instruments over the areas to be treated several times will eventually reach the middle of the dermas. The natural collagen production is stimulated under this procedure. The production of collagen tightens sagging skin and wrinkles. This type of treatment may have to occur over several procedures to enhance benefit.

The person receiving this laser procedure is under conscious sedation. Medication is given through an IV that will calm and help ease pain. In addition there topical creams that are meant to anesthetize the patent, as well as the use of local injections of a numbing agent.

It may take up to months for the skin to heal from this procedure. Also, a laser face lift may cause permanent changes in the coloration of your skin as well as scarring. However, there are newer laser procedures that heal faster and only treat the wrinkled areas instead of the whole face. But, as with traditional laser resurfacing, several procedures may be needed to experience the full benefit of a laser procedure.
